How do I find a re-enactment group?
Check out our groups’ pages on our website, or contact us and we’ll help connect you to a group near you.
How do I become a re-enactor?
Check out our member pages or come to one of our events to have a look and see if there is a group that you want to join. Each group has its own membership process.
What sort of people join?
Our members may be diverse in background, education, occupation, age and beliefs but they share a passionate interest in history.
The QLHF has a set of policies in place that cover discrimination, bullying, and child protection so that we can provide a safe and enjoyable re-enactment experience for all of our members.
Where can I see QLHF groups perform?
Our groups perform at Abbey Medieval Festival, Fort Lytton, St Ives Medieval Faire as well as a number of smaller shows. You can see the whole of the QLHF on show at our flagship event, History Alive!
What periods of history do our groups re-enact?
We have groups portraying history from the Neolithic Era, the Roman Empire, the Dark Ages, the Early, Middle and Late Medieval periods, the Renaissance, the Napoleonic War, the Colonial Era, World Wars I and II, and the Vietnam War. Our groups cover a wide geographical range, from Europe and the Middle East to Japan.
How would I find a group focused on a particular period and culture?
Have a look through the Our Members section first.
If you need more assistance please contact us. We are always happy to assist people wanting to get started.
Is re-enactment combat safe? Is it choreographed?
Generally, our groups don’t choreograph their combat. They train with experienced and accredited instructors for whom safety is the highest priority.
Any physical sport has risks. We minimise those risks by having standards for protective equipment, combat regulations and prescribed skill levels. Our members are covered by our insurance for training and combat.
I have an event. Where can I get a tank, some Vikings, and a penny farthing bicycle?
Speak to us. We will put you in contact with the groups that can assist you. Even we are occasionally amazed by what is sitting in the sheds and cupboards of our members!
